School Programs
Open to all schools, these programs can be tailored to accommodate any group size or program length.
- All staff are fully trained and qualified
- All staff are certified in Standard First Aid and/or Wilderness First Aid

Email cms.outdoorprograms@edmonton.ca to book your school program!
Bookings must be made at least one month in advance. Bookings close the first day of the month prior to the program (for example, May bookings must be submitted by April 1.)
Equipment
All gear and safety equipment is supplied. Please ask us about our modified equipment available for people with physical disabilities.
Please Note: Programs may be cancelled due to inclement weather.
Please Note: Some parks, especially during the winter season, have limited site services. Please bring your own water or personal supplies.
Archery
Grades 4 - 12
Bull's eye! Learn about the equipment and discover the basics of archery, while practicing aim and accuracy.
Available: Spring to Fall
Group Size: Up to 15 (larger groups can be accommodated by adding programming such as Initiative Tasks)
Location: Victoria Park Oval
Cross-Country Skiing
Grades 3-12
Try out the groomed tracks at one of our cross-country skiing sites.
This program focuses on safety and fun! Learn new skills while you play ski-friendly games with our instructors.
Available: Winter
Group Size: Up to 40
Locations: Gold Bar Park (Grades 3-12) and Victoria Driving Range (Grades 7-12)

Fishing
All Grades
Experience the joys of fishing!
Learn how to cast and reel them in, as well as a bit about the nature of fish. Have fun at the dock practicing your new skills.

Geo-Caching
Grades 4 - 12
Explore the tools needed for the world-wide scavenger hunt known as geo-caching!
An understanding of map use and navigation prior to the program is suggested.
Ask about our pre-set geo-caching courses, located in several river valley parks!

Ice Skating
Grades 1-12
We provide the skates, helmets, and fun!

Initiative Tasks
Grades 5-12
Build an understanding of group communication and teamwork by facing challenges and problem-solving activities as a group.
Available: Year-round

Long Boarding
Grades 4 -12
Try out longboarding at Rundle Park and learn about balance, turning techniques and safety. Once you have learned the essentials, we will head out and explore the trails in Edmonton’s River Valley in a whole new way!

Mini-Mountain Biking
Grades 1-6
Increase your confidence on a bike at a learner-friendly site.
We provide bikes, helmets, and optional training wheels for young riders. Our instructors focus on safety and fun in this experience based program.

Grades 7-12
Get on a bike, strap on a helmet and follow our instructions to explore the bike trails of Edmonton's river valley!

Orienteering and Navigation
Grades 3 -12
Learn to find your way! Acquire navigation skills including map reading and compass work.

Outdoor Skills
Grades 1 -12
Learn survival and camping skills such as shelter building, fire building, safe knife and axe use. Ask us about outdoor cooking opportunities including bannock.

Paddle Boarding
Grades 4 – 12
Try the fastest growing water sport in North America in the ponds of Rundle Park. Beginner technique, strokes and safety will be emphasized.

Group Size: Up to 6 (larger groups can be accommodated by adding programming such as Longboarding or Canoeing).

Predator and Prey
Grades 5 -12
Experience first hand how animals survive and thrive!
This classic game is a fantastic demonstration of the dynamics of a food chain and animal survival techniques.

Snowshoeing
Grades 1-12
Learn how to travel using Canada's traditional mode of transportation! See classic beavertail style snowshoes!
Play games and experience a winter landscape through a new perspective.

Tandem Canoeing
Grades 4 - 12
Learn the importance of teamwork and communication as you canoe in pairs.
Basic strokes, safety, and fun will be emphasized. All instructors are Paddle Canada certified.

Voyageur Canoeing
Grade 4-Adult
Enjoy the sights as you paddle down the North Saskatchewan River in a 32-foot long, 12-person canoe!
Come paddle with us down the North Saskatchewan River as we discover physical, natural and historical highlights of Edmonton's River Valley.
