Daycamps

Summer Registration Notice

Registration for Daycamps opens on March 16, 2016.

For more information on the summer daycamps that we offer, please visit ereg.edmonton.ca

Locate a camp by using the Search Feature and browsing the 'Camps' section in the Areas of Interest.

Our unique River Valley camps create opportunities for kids to have fun outdoor adventures and build positive skills and habits!

What they learn about physical fitness, socialization and personal growth will be called upon throughout their lives.

Camp Times

Camps run from 9am-4pm (unless otherwise noted)

Morning drop off is 8-9am and afternoon pick up is 4-5pm

Late pick up fee: $10 for each 15 minutes after 5pm

What to Bring to Camp

  • Lunch and snack (no nuts please)
  • Appropriate clothes for outside
  • Water bottle
  • A change of clothes
  • Bug spray and sun screen

What not to bring:

  • Cell phones
  • Game systems
  • MP3 Players

Daycamp Forms

Prior to your child’s first day of camp, please print and fill out the camper information Daycamp Forms.

If your child has medical concerns (e.g. severe allergies), please also fill out the Medical & Epi-Pen Forms.

Remember to bring the completed forms with you when you drop off your child for his or her first day of camp.

Jr. Rangers (5-7)

Does your child have what it takes to be a River Valley Junior Ranger? At this camp, they’ll develop camping and wilderness survival skills such as outdoor cooking, fire making, and shelter building, along with a wide array of games, crafts, and songs. We will also spend time biking around Rundle Park and learning how to be safe on the trails. We’ll complete the training with a visit from a real Edmonton Park Ranger!

Little Acorns (3.5-5)

Little Acorns are nuts for nature! This half day camp for preschoolers will let your child spend time in the beauty of Whitemud Park, where they will play games and create nature based crafts. Our hope is that, by the end of the week, all Little Acorns will have an increased appreciation and love for everything outdoors! Please note: all participants must be toilet trained and comfortable using the bathroom. Parents/guardians are not required to stay.

Mud Munchkins (5-7)

We'll discover the wonders of nature as we spend all day in the outdoors! We'll enjoy a bit of nature awareness focusing on identifying trees, bugs and animals in the area. We'll also do some cloud watching, walk the trails, play fun games and sing silly songs. Your child will enjoy nature crafts, story time and bird watching. This camp includes a half day trip to the Valley Zoo on Friday. Allow this classic camp to bring out the joy of being a child and the wonder of exploring the great outdoors.

Pirates of the North Saskatchewan (5-7)

Find your child's best pirate attire and let them pack up their loot as the Pirates of the North Saskatchewan go on a 4 day adventure in the River Valley! As a true test of their swashbuckling skills the pirates will learn the ropes on a voyageur canoe at Hermitage Park. Your child is invited to put their best foot forward and start practicing their 'ARRRRRRRR' as this camp is sure to thrill the pirate in everyone.

Saplings (5-7)

Your child is invited to step outside and unravel the natural mysteries of the River Valley. This classic camp is perfect for the inspired young camper who likes to play and learn in the great outdoors. We'll go on nature treks, go picture orienteering, create environmentally friendly crafts, learn the basics of outdoor cooking, play games, sing new songs, and so much more. We’ll even try fishing and take home their own fishing rod and reel, courtesy of The Fishin' Hole!

Aspen Adventurers (8-12)

We invite your child to play outside and unravel the natural mysteries of the River Valley! Challengers I (9-11)

Let your child take on new challenges this summer as they mount a bicycle each day and tour the River Valley. They’ll explore Edmonton ponds by tandem canoe, go longboarding on the trails and visit Victoria Park for archery and group challenges. Think they’ll have the land skills covered? We’ll throw in a half day of swimming to make sure your child is just as confident in the water.

Duskbusters I (8-10)

We’ll help your child learn to be the ultimate camper! They’ll figure out what it takes to camp out overnight under the stars. We’ll practice outdoor cooking, fire making, and shelter building. Camp-savvy leaders will provide tips and guidance throughout the week so they’re ready for the Thursday night camp out. We’ll even host a campfire for families so our campers can show off their new skills.

Horse Riders I (7-10)

For kids who love horses! Campers will spend two hours a day learning horse grooming and riding skills at the Whitemud Equine Centre. Keep horsing around for the rest of the day while going on outdoor adventures, observing what it takes to keep horses happy, playing games, and making crafts. Each camper will get to take home a photo of themselves with their horse-of-the-week!

Your little camper can learn how to survive in the great Canadian wild! Campers will spend the week developing skills such as fishing, archery, navigation, and shelter building. On Thursday, we will put the skills to the test and camp under the stars in a River Valley park. Trackers will even get to take home their own fishing rod and reel, courtesy of The Fishin’ Hole!

Challengers II (12-14)

Is your child ready for the next challenge? We’ll mount bicycles every day and tour the River Valley. We’ll explore and paddle the North Saskatchewan River in a voyageur canoe, reach for new heights at Vertically Inclined Rock Gym, and complete a set of group challenges. We’ll throw in a half day of swimming to make sure your child is just as confident in the water.

Voyageurs (13-15)

This is the most advanced of our camps and focuses on fostering leadership skills. Learn paddling techniques through tandem and voyageur canoeing and even stand-up paddle boarding. Hone your no trace camping skills such as fire building, outdoor cooking, knot tying and shelter building. On Thursday, we'll set out for a voyageur canoe trip down the North Saskatchewan with an overnight camping experience along the banks in one of our River Valley Parks. Try out your new leadership skills by teaching leading an activity that you've designed with younger participants from another camp

River Explorers II (11-13)

Explore the depths! This week long adventure will have your child playing games, hiking, discovering the River Valley by voyageur canoe, and fishing on the banks of the North Saskatchewan River. We’ll even jump into the pool for two 2.5 hour scuba diving sessions. Explorers can learn the basics of snorkeling and scuba diving in an introductory PADI Discover Scuba program (no certification earned by campers).

Parents Please Note:  Due to the nature of scuba diving, a doctor's note may be required in order for your child to participate in scuba activities. All scuba instruction will be offered by qualified dive instructors from Northwest Scuba Adventures. Please call 780-496-2981 for more information.

Scramblers (10-13)

Scramblers is a climbing-focused camp with an outdoor adventure twist! Your child will go on a series of adventures throughout the River Valley using GPS, slack line, survival skills, and orienteering. They’ll challenge themselves at Vertically Inclined Rock Gym, where they’ll go climbing twice. We’ll finish off the week by completing a series of group challenges.

Junior Fire Cadets (12 – 15)

Has your child always wondered what it would be like to be a Firefighter? Each week will be an exciting mix of classroom lectures, hands on learning and physical training as Jr Cadets learn the basics of CPR, first aid, safety, fire prevention, dispatch, fire apparatus and other firefighting skills. Campers will interact with members of the Fire Cadet Program as well as Training Officers and Firefighters. As an extra challenge, they will learn cooking skills and teamwork as they prepare their lunch with their peers. The week will give each Camper confidence and a new understanding of the Edmonton Fire Rescue Services.
