Volunteers Needed

Sign up to volunteer as an individual or group by emailing Root For Trees.

By taking part in this project, made possible by a grant from TD Green Streets, you will learn about water quality, riparian vegetation, the insects and animals that make the pond their home, and how planting trees can help make everyone a little healthier and happier!

Water that flows into the sewers from the surface (such as streets and yards) is referred to as storm water. This includes rain and snow melt, but also excess water from watering lawns or washing cars. In almost all areas of the city, storm water drains into a separate sewer system that contains storm water only.

Storm water does not undergo the same treatment process as water from your home. Instead, it is channeled, via the storm sewer system, either directly into the North Saskatchewan River or into a storm water management lake. Here, sediments settle out and the water is filtered by vegetation before it is released back into river systems.
