Off-leash Site Advisory Committee

Jackie Parker Park Off-leash Site

The Jackie Parker Recreation Area is situated in southeast Edmonton at 4540 – 50 Street.

Over the past 20 years, neighbourhood stakeholders and community members have played a significant role in the development of the park. The Jackie Parker Recreation Area Master Plan document was created in 1992. A dog off leash area was designated in the park by City Council in 1994.

It’s expected that the integration of future park amenities may result in a variety of different activities in the park. As a result, a process will be facilitated to accommodate the needs of different users. The City of Edmonton has an Urban Parks Management Plan which guides park development in Edmonton. This process aligns with this plan assuring that:

  1. Parks are designed to be multi-use and are for people of all ages and cultures.
  2. Parks promote wellness and a sense of community.
  3. Parks and Community Services will continue to work with the community to facilitate the needs of all parks users of the Jackie Parker Recreation Area.

Dog Off Leash Area Citizens Advisory Committee

Citizens have been invited to help shape the future of the park through a Citizens’ Advisory Committee. Specifically, the initiative will determine the size, location and configuration of the dog off leash portion. The Citizens’ Advisory Committee will provide recommendations to City administration on potential solutions to accommodate different users.

Composition of Committee:

  • 3 representatives from Mill Woods President’s Council / MCARFA
  • 4 representatives from the dog off leash users
  • 1 representative whose residence is next to the park
  • 2 representatives from Woodvale community
    • 1 dog off leash user
    • 1 non-dog off leash user
  • 2 representatives from Burnewood community
    • 1 dog off leash user
    • 1 non-dog off leash user
