Keltie Byrne (1970-1991)
In the summer of 1986 she won a National Championship gold medal in her specialty; the 200-metre individual medley and a place on Canada's National Swim Team.
She competed for her country at meets in the Soviet Union, West Germany and Great Britian. In 1991, after leaving Edmonton Keyano Swim Club to study at the University of Victoria she won the 200-metre breaststroke at the Canada West Swim Championships.
The Canada West event was Keltie's last swim meet. Her life was tragically cut short on February 20, 1991, while training whales at Victoria's Sealand Aquarium. We will all miss her.
